Deaths of Local Interest – Dec. 15, 2016

Evelyn G. Cammauf, 96, of Akron, passed away Dec. 11 at Lancashire Hall. She was a member of the Akron Church of the Brethren. Evelyn worked for the former Miller & Hess Shoe Factory, Akron. She enjoyed crocheting, watching the walkers on the Akron Rail Trail, and loved flowers. Her sisters, Gloria Wolf; and Nancy, wife of Ken Fern, reside in Maneheim.

Verna Grace Nissley, 78, of Elizabethtown, went home to be with Jesus Dec. 4, at the Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Center of Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy. Verna was an active member of Good’s Mennonite Church in Bainbridge, where she was the president of the sewing circle for more than 40 years. She made scores of quilts over the years, many which were sold at Kraybill Mennonite School Benefit Auction over a period of 30 years. Her brother, J. Frank Zeager, lives in Lititz.

Leonard S. Sloane, 95, of Lancaster, passed away at the Mennonite Home on Dec. 6. Leonard interrupted his studies to voluntarily serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 84th Bomb Squadron, 47th Bomb Group during World War II. Following the war, Leonard completed his engineering studies and worked for RCA as a mechanical engineer for over 30 years. He enjoyed maintaining his yard and home and was an exceptional woodworker. His daughter, Ellen Sloane, wife of Richard Wirth, lives in Lititz.

Virginia Lee (Baker) Trauger, 70, of Lancaster, died Dec. 6 at Calvary Fellowship Home, Lancaster. Virginia loved to bowl, dance, crochet, and knit. She especially enjoyed having a cold drink with her family. She was a former member of Otters. Her daughter, Jennifer Trauger Holden, lives in Lititz.
