Emma Schouten is making waves at Loyola

Emma Schouten, a 2017 graduate of Warwick High School, has fit right in at the collegiate level this season as a member of the Division One Loyola (Md.) University swim team.

On Nov. 15 at VMI, the freshman won a pair of events to help the Lady Greyhounds to a 159-58 team victory. Schouten captured the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:07.34, and also staked claim to first place in the 1650 yard freestyle, winning that event with a time of 17:37.00.

For the season, Schouten has been part of 15 first-place finishes, including 11 in individual events.

Her best day in the pool came Oct. 21 at Lafayette when she was part of four wins on the day, including three individual victories. That day, she claimed the 1000 free (10:42.86), 200 breast (2:20.70) and 500 free (5:14.70), and was part of the victorious 200 free relay, which claimed first place in a time of 1:40.19.

Up next, Schouten and the Lady Greyhounds (6-1) will host the H2OUNDS Invitational Meet, which will include: Iona, Marist, Mount St. Mary’s and St. Peters, on Dec. 1-2 at Mangione Pool at the Fitness & Aquatic Center.
