The Manheim Touchdown Club Awards Banquet will be held Wednesday, May 25, at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex beginning with a reception at 5:45 p.m. Brent Pry, assistant head coach/defensive coordinator at Penn State University, will be the featured speaker. The L-L League Player of the Year will be announced at this time. The three finalists for this award are Ike Schannauer from Wilson, Colin Shank from Lampeter-Strasburg, and Will Blair from Hempfield.

Manheim Central High School grad, Caleb Walton, of Lock Haven University, will receive the Dr. Gene Carpenter Award for the Small College Player of the Year and Matt Rothrock of Wilson High School and Lafayette College will receive the award for the Big College Player of the Year.

The Gene Upshaw Award for the College Division-Two Lineman of the Year will also be part of the program. The L-L League Coaches will be introduced along with the all players participating in the Tri-County All-Star Football game to be played Saturday, May 28, in Manheim.

Pry is a native of Altoona. His coaching career has spanned 22 years and began at East Stroudsburg University when James Franklin was still playing quarterback there. He has been a defensive coach his entire career and has coached all aspects of the defense including the defensive line, defensive backs and linebackers. He is generally considered one of the top linebackers coach in the country. As Penn State’s co-defensive coordinator in 2014, he helped direct a unit that was No. 2 in FBS total defense.

Mike Hull earned the Big Ten Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the year and eight All-American honors. For his efforts, Pry was a finalist for Football Scoop’s Linebacker Coach of the Year Award to continue the “Linebacker U” tradition.

Prior to being hired on Coach Franklin’s staff at Vanderbilt, Pry had coaching stints at Georgia Southern, Memphis, Louisiana-Lafayette, Western Carolina, Virginia Tech, and East Stroudsburg.
