Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Chris Christensen is expected to be named the new Warwick boys head basketball coach.

Pending board approval at the Warwick school board’s June 16 meeting, the former Manheim Township assistant will succeed Jeff Landis, who guided the Warriors to an 85-99 record over eight seasons as the team’s head coach.

This past winter, the Warwick boys went 11-5 in Section One, good for fourth place, and finished 14-9 overall after suffering a 58-50 loss to Reading in a District Three Quad-A first-round playoff game.

Christensen’s assistant coaching position with the Blue Streaks is currently listed as vacant on Manheim Township’s website. In the 2014-15 season, the Township boys finished 7-9 in Section One, 8-13 overall.

Sources also indicated that former Warwick player Wes Soto, a volunteer assistant on Landis’ staff, interviewed for the Warriors’ vacancy. At Warwick’s school board meeting on May 19, it was reported in the Record Express that several members of the Warrior boys basketball team attended to express their disappointment that Soto was not hired for the position.
