The community is invited to attend Brickerville United Lutheran’s picnic on Saturday, July 4, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The picnic will take place at the church’s shaded grove, located at 340 E. 28th Division Highway, on the corner of Hershey Road and Route 322 in Brickerville.

This year’s theme commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and honors all veterans and active military. The entertainment, provided by the historic Ringgold Band, is always a crowd-pleaser, especially for those who remember church picnics in their younger days. The music will include three mini concerts; the first will celebrate American music and composers, the second will be music of stage and screen featuring the music of the giants, and the third will be a patriotic presentation where all military past and present are honored.

In addition to the concert band, there will be vocalist and instrumentalist solos. And as always, the band will solicit requests from the audience for those famous encore marches that have become the staple of the Ringgold Band and all concerts bands in America.

In addition, there will be a private collection of war memorabilia displayed, which will include some local artifacts.

The food at the picnic is yet another tradition many look forward to every year. From their signature chicken corn soup, beef barbecue, fresh fruit salad, burgers, homemade desserts, and more. Food will be available for sale from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Most guests come for the evening to have dinner and stay to enjoy the entertainment.

Free activities will be provided for the children. The picnic will be held rain or shine. Free parking is available and donations are accepted at the gate. It is suggested to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the performances at the outdoor pavilion, or call the church office at 627-2202 if you would like chairs reserved.
