On Oct. 12, a 90th birthday celebration dinner for the Rev. Roy M. Neideigh was held in the Chives Restaurant at Brethren Village, Lancaster.LR20141030_CSoc90-3

There family and friends gathered to honor and thank Roy for his lifetime mission of service to his country, church, and community. He, in turn, paid tribute to three mentors who helped inspire him to seek that goal: The Rev. Dr. L. C. Hunt, Prof. M. C. Demmy, and Mildred, his wife.

As a youth in Lititz, he attended the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church and Lititz High School, where his musical talents were well noted. Following his LHS graduation in 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he served in the Pacific Theater for three years. He went on to graduate from Franklin & Marshall College and Lancaster Theological Seminary.

Roy served as minister for a number of congregations throughout his career, including: Trinity Evangelical & Reformed Church, Shenandoah; First Evangelical & Reformed Church, Hamburg; St. John’s United Church of Christ, Gibraltar; and First Reformed Church, Wernersville. During this time he preached more than 4,000 sermons, baptized 497 children, instructed and confirmed 602 youth, solemnized 210 marriages and conducted 632 funeral services.

Roy’s 90th birthday will occur on Nov. 10, and anyone wishing to send a greeting to him, can do so by mailing it to 3104 Merritt Parkway, Reading, PA 19608-1208.LR20141030_CSoc90-2
