The 2014 United Zion Retirement Community Artist Gallery continues with emerging artist Chris Corrao.

Corrao earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from Millersville University in 2012. He has developed a multifaceted body of work utilizing a number of varied mediums. He prefers to work in an ever-changing manner; never hanging on to one medium or series of works for too long. He is currently creating abstract photograms (a non-traditional photography process), relief prints, and paintings.

While growing up in a musical family, Chris learned to compose music through improvisation. This practice also found its way into his art making. Many of his most successful works were created through an improvisational use of materials. He enjoys the immediacy and honesty of works created through quick movements and instinct. The physical result of these actions creates a composition controlled by chance and varied by each material used. Working in this manner creates a piece that can only be produced one single time and only in that moment whether the process is applied to alternative photography, printmaking, paintings, or other mediums.

Chris began showing his works publicly in 2005 and maintains a busy exhibition schedule in Downtown Lancaster and throughout the region. He is also heavily involved in the Lancaster County Art Association, based in Strasburg, Pennsylvania.

By day Chris works as a graphic designer, producing ads for regional and national publications, brochures, mail pieces, and more. He hopes to continue his education and earn a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree.

The community is encouraged to view Corrao’s numerous works on display for the month of February daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. United Zion Retirement Community is located at 722 Furnace Hills Pike.
