By on June 30, 2015

Kathy Blankenbiller, Joan Crawford, Omar Bradley, George H. W. Bush, Winston Churchill, Bob Hope, and Elvis Presley all have one thing in common. They are all Kentucky Colonels.

Gov. Steven L. Beshear of Kentucky honored the local community activist with a commission as a colonel on his personal staff during a meeting of the Darling Domestic Divas of Lititz on Sunday at her home near Penryn. Kathy is best known as Wilbur Chocolate’s official chocolatier and spent many years as Mrs. Santa greeting children as they met the Jolly Old Elf at his temporary home in Lititz Springs Park.

She gave spark to what has become the annual “Have Yourself A Merry Lititz Christmas,” and has been active in the local Chocolate Walk. Wherever there is a need in the community, Kathy will be found in the vicinity lending a helping hand.

As a commissioned Kentucky Colonel, Kathy is now enrolled into the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels — some of whom include Arlen Sanders, Shirley Temple, both Smothers Brothers, Roy Rogers, Ronald Reagan, Wayne Newton, Pope John Paul II, Duncan Hines, and many more.
