Bears married 65 years

Frederick E. and Jeanette Bender Bear, Lititz, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on June 2. They were married in 1951 in Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Rothsville, by the late Rev. Matthew J. Kerestes.

They are the parents of three children: Melinda, married to Mark A. Elmer of Brickerville; Lyndon, married to Charlotte Eberly of Robesonia; and Jennifer Landis of Lititz. They have six grandsons and two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fred retired from Great Connections, formerly Yerger Bros. in Lititz, after 41 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War proof testing anti-aircraft guided missiles. Prior to his Army service he also worked for the Ed Hess Farm in Oregon, J. H. Reitz & Son in Millway, and Martin & Metzler Chevrolet Agency in Ephrata. After retirement, he worked at the Manheim Auto Auction for 16 years.

Jeanette retired from Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Lititz, where she was church secretary for more than 20 years. While their children were growing up, she was a domestic engineer. During the time Fred was in the Army she was the secretary to the State 4H staff at the New Mexico A & M University. Prior to that she worked at the W. W. Moyer factory in Ephrata and Hershey & Gibbel Insurance Agency in Lititz.

They are members of Trinity E.C. Church, Lititz. Fred is a member of Wilkin’s Flat and Cobb’s Hollow hunting clubs, the Young Men’s Business League, and the American Legion, both in Lititz. Jeanette is a member of the Lititz church secretary’s group.

They enjoy traveling and have toured the 46 of the 48 contiguous states as well as Canada and Mexico, and have traveled to Europe several times. They were North Fort Myers, Fla., “snowbirds” for 15 years.
