William David Donnelly, 96, active in National Railway Historical Society, newspaper connoisseur

William “Bill” David Donnelly, 96, of Lititz, passed away Monday, Sept.15, 2014.

Bill was born Feb. 9, 1918 in Audubon, N.J. He was the oldest of three siblings.

Mr. Donnelly served proudly during WWII as a master sergeant in the US Army. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines, New Guinea, and Australia. He graduated from Audubon High School. Bill enjoyed meeting new people in his job as a building materials salesman for many years and had customers in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania areas. Bill was a long time resident of Oaklyn, N.J., and on retirement moved to Brethren Village in Lititz.

He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed being an active member of the National Railway Historical Society, Lancaster chapter for several years. Bill loved to read, especially newspapers his family sent him from all over the world. Traveling was always a love of his, even if done vicariously through others.

Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years: Marjorie (Beauchamp); son: Jeff (Annie) Donnelly of Ringoes, N.J.; and daughter: Sue (Terry) Henke of Overland Park, Kansas; his grandsons: Patrick and Ryan Henke of Overland Park, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents: David and Gertrude (Shingle) Donnelly; sister: Jane (formerly Worrell) Glauner; and sister: Inez (Peggy) Moyer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m at Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike.
