Willard B. Stauffer, 92, retired farmer, painter, enjoyed playing shuffleboard and caning chairs

Willard B. Stauffer, 92, formerly of New Holland and Womelsdorf, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Ephrata Manor.

He was the husband of Nora Weaver Horst Stauffer, with whom he celebrated 29 years of marriage in April. His first wife, Grace Hollinger Stauffer, passed away in 1988.

He was born in Warwick Township, Lancaster County on Jan. 6, 1926, son of the late Evan and Barbara Bollinger Stauffer.

In addition to his wife, Willard is survived by three sons: Galen E. (Sara Brubaker) of Lititz, Larry W. (Joyce Hartzler) of Womelsdorf, John J. (Lois Hollinger) of Adamstown; and one daughter: Phoebe Gehman (Gary) of Newmanstown; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-children; eight step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law: Dolores (Horst) Stauffer; three sisters-in-law: Lois Hollinger, Ruth Hollinger and Kay Hollinger; and many nieces and nephews. When Willard married Nora 29 years ago, he gained another daughter and two sons: Anita Murphy (Kevin) of Sarasota, Fla.; Elton Horst (Sherlyn) of Leola; and Ivan Ray Horst (Doris) of New Holland.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son: Leon L. Stauffer; and a sister: Margarite Sauder (Raymond).

Willard was a member of Green Terrace Mennonite Church, and attended Groffdale Mennonite Church He was a farmer in Lancaster and Berks Counties. After retiring from farming, Willard was a self-employed painter, and also worked at Oregon Dairy as a dishwasher. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard in Sarasota, Fla., where he and Nora visited every winter. He also enjoyed caning chairs.

Services were held June 19 at Hammer Creek Mennonite Church, Lititz, with Pastors Tom Eshleman, Nelson Zeiset, and Ben Martin officiating. Interment was held in the Hammer Creek Mennonite Cemetery.
