Violet L. Simmons, 89, formerly of Manheim, mother of four, was married 67 years

Violet L. Simmons, 89, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Manheim, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Messiah Lifeways.

Born June 24, 1926, in Mechanicsburg she was a daughter of Merritt L. and Edna S. “Hale” Potteiger.

Violet was a member of Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church and attended Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church in Mount Joy for several years.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years: Paul E. Simmons; two sisters: Ruth Clemson Kessler and Betty Potteiger; and three brothers: Frank, Clyde, and Merritt Potteiger Jr.

Violet is survived by her four children: Randy Simmons and wife Sandra of Carlisle, Mark Simmons and wife Priscilla of Manheim, Eileen Gardner and husband Jeff of Mechanicsburg, Philip Simmons and wife Suzanne of Dillsburg; three sisters: Alice Seaman and Ellen “Shorty” Sellers, both of Mechanicsburg; Dorothy Mullaney of Harrisburg; three brothers: Fred Potteiger of Mechanicsburg, Don Potteiger of Roxbury, and Dick Potteiger of Landisburg; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 18 at Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church. Burial took place in Mount Zion Cemetery, Boiling Springs.
