82, Korean War vet, ’50 Lititz High School graduate, retired school teacher

Thomas Noble Clarke, 82, of Bellefonte, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at Centre Crest.

Born Sept. 29, 1931 in West Chester, he was a son of the late George D. and Margaret (Gundrum) Clarke.

On Aug. 16, 1958, in State College, he married Linda Cooper who survives at home.

He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War from 1950-1953.

Tom was a 1950 graduate of Lititz High School. He was also a 1961 graduate of Lock Haven University graduating with a BS in History and English. He was a beloved seventh grade history teacher at the Bellefonte Area Junior High School, until his retirement in 1993, after 32 years of teaching.

Tom was a family man, family always came first. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellefonte, who loved crossword puzzles and playing cards.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Amy L.C. Horgas and her husband J. Mark of State College; one son: Thomas M. Clarke of Bellefonte; one brother: the Reverend E. Mahlon Clarke (Eleanor) of Florida and four grandchildren: J.C. and Sarah Clarke and Stefan and Brendan Horgas.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and five siblings: Emily, David, Frank, Roger and Donald.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at the St. John Lutheran Church, 216 N. McAllister Street, Bellefonte. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church, with the Reverend William E. Osman officiating.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Farmers Mills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions in Tom’s name be made to the Employee Fund at Centre Crest, 502 E. Howard Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823 or St. John Lutheran Church, 216 N. McAllister Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
