Thomas K. Sheldon, 71, tennis pro, court caretaker, pet lover, loved dark Wilbur chocolate

Thomas K. Sheldon, 71, of Exton, formerly of Meshoppen, and Virginia Beach, Va., passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Exton.

Thomas was a son of the late A. Bryce Sheldon and the late Mary Margaret (Jayne) Sheldon of Meshoppen.

Thomas is survived by one brother: Timothy B. Sheldon, husband of Hilda Ann (Brown), Lititz; two nieces: Brenda (Sheldon) Stauffer, wife of Chuck Stauffer, Exton; and Rhonda Sheldon, Ephrata; and several cousins. Also surviving are Tom’s second family: Millie, and the late George McGuire, Virginia Beach, Va.; along with their son and daughter: George Jr. and Sarah.

Tom attended Meshoppen High School, graduated from Lakemont Academy for Boys, Seneca, N.Y., and graduated from Davis and Elkins College, Elkins, W.Va.

Tom lived all of his adult life in Virginia Beach. He was the Tennis Pro at the Cavalier Hotel for many years. People would travel to play against him. Tom proudly maintained the Cavalier’s clay tennis courts. The courts were rated the best clay courts on the east coast while they were under his care. He was also a Tennis Pro and member of the Princess Anne Country Club.

During his life Tom had several cats and four dogs, which brought him great joy. He had a very special connection with his last dog, Lucy. Tom had fond memories of fishing in the Meshoppen Creek. He also loved his niece Brenda’s chocolate chip cookies, and the dark chocolate from Wilbur Chocolate Co. in Lititz.

Services will be held privately, at the convenience of the family on a future date.
