Shirley L. Becker, 85, worked at Yerger Bros., poll volunteer, made incredible sand tarts

Shirley L. Becker, 85, of Lititz, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Maple Farm.

She was born in Lancaster to the late Walter and Kathryn (Peterman) Heiss, and was the wife of Graybill Becker, with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on Nov. 28.

She was a member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rothsville. Shirley worked for the School District of Lancaster; and later, in the office of Yerger Brothers in Lititz. She graduated from McCaskey High School and was a volunteer in Lititz for Meals on Wheels, and at the election polls. She enjoyed baking and sharing holiday cookies; her family’s favorites were her special sand tarts and mini chocolate-almond cheesecakes.

In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by two sisters: Janet Martin of Lancaster, and Loris Harrison of Millersville; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister: June Firestone.

Services were held Nov. 15 at Stradling Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Robert Lowden officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
