Ronald E. Greiner, 74, PPL lineman, long rifle builder, enjoyed the mountain man lifestyle

Ronald E. Greiner, 74, of Manheim, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 surrounded by his family, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

Ronald was born in Elizabethtown on Dec. 26, 1943, a son of Gladys D. (Livengood) Greiner, of Elizabethtown, and the late Clarence W. Greiner.

He was a retired lineman leader for PPL, Lancaster, and was also a long rifle builder, who made many beautiful rifles. He was a graduate of Hershey High School.

Ron enjoyed camping, hunting and the mountain man life style. Ron was a member of the Columbia Fish & Game Club, the Eastern Primitive Rendezvous Association, where he was known as “Lefty,” the National Muzzeloader Rifle Association and the NRA.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife: Helen C. (Nonemaker) Greiner; four sons: Dean Greiner, his wife, Kathie, of Lebanon; Tim S. Greiner, of Manheim; Neil E. Greiner of Hershey; Todd A. Greiner, his wife, Missy, of Elizabethtown; two stepdaughters: Trudy G., wife of Gregory Fetcho, of Highland Beach, Fla.; Sharon K., wife of James Bitler, of Lititz; a brother; Jerry Greiner, and his companion, Susan Shearer, of Lancaster; two sisters: Cindy, wife of Jeff Zinn, of Elizabethtown; Kathy L., wife of Mike Shalonis, of Marysville; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one on the way; two aunts; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 398 N. Locust St., Elizabethtown. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday in the church. Period dress is welcomed. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville.
