71, served in U.S. Army during Vietnam War, welder at Herr & Sacco

Robert D. “Bob” “Bobby” Bender, 71, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.

He was the loving husband of JoAnne E. (Mellon) Wolf Bender, Thomasville. Mr. Bender was born in Leola on May 21, 1946, son of the late Richard and Betty (Beck) Bender.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Bob was employed by Herr & Sacco, Manheim, as a welder.

In addition to his wife, survivors include, three sons: Blake D. Bender and his wife, Donna of Lititz; Dustin L. Bender and his wife, Jodi of York; and Victor K. Wolf and his wife, Nicole of Thomasville; six grandchildren: Breanna and Brooke Heilman, Rece and Bryce Bender, Victor Jr. and Makayla Wolf; and two siblings.

Services were held Feb. 12 at LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Shiloh, with Pastor Dennis Ray officiating. Full military rites were presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, at a later date.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made in Bob’s name, to the American Lung Association, 3001 Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
