Rev. Erwin E. Boettcher, 89, former Moravian Manor and Brunnerville UMC pastor, loved to travel

Rev. Erwin E. Boettcher, 89, of Lancaster, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at Brethren Village.

Born in Bruderheim, Alberta, Canada, he was the husband of the late Dorothy Mae (Wright) Boettcher. He was the son of the late Emil and Martha (Hauer) Boettcher.

Boettcher was a Moravian minister for 37 years, pastoring at a number of different Moravian churches. He was chaplain at Moravian Manor, Lititz, from 1982 to 1988. He last pastored Brunnerville United Methodist Church, retiring in 1992.

Boettcher and his wife shared a love of travel, having traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Central America with People to People and Elder Hostels.

He is survived by three daughters: Wendy (and William) Hardiman of Bethlehem; Jill (and Rev. Richard) Bruckart of Riverside, N.J.; and Rebecca (and Kelley) Jones of Red Lion; three grandchildren: Rachel, Allison, and Daniel; one great-grandson: Daniel; and a sister: Helen Gahr of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on May 14, at Lancaster Moravian Church, 227 N. Queen St., Lancaster. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the church following the service.
