Ralph Charles Adams Jr., 90, Coast Guard vet, avid bowler, Sinatra and Elvis fan, great dancer

Ralph Charles Adams Jr., “Rocket,” 90, of New Castle, Del., passed away at Regal Heights Rehab, Hockessin, Del., on Sept. 9, 2017, following a brief illness.

Ralph was born on Jan. 4, 1927, in Rapho Township to the late Ralph Charles Adams and Ellen Christ Fry (Adams) Witmer.

Ralph attended school in Manheim and served in the United States Coast Guard for several years. He enjoyed sports; Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles; golf; and was an avid bowler, having had many highlights including 298, 299, and 300 games. He always loved music and was often asked to sing his favorites of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley at various functions. In addition, he was a great dancer and shared his love of dancing in these last five years with his friend/companion, Nancy Surnan-Hargis. Ralph will always be remembered as a man with a story to tell and was an active member of The United Methodist Church of Atonement and Post Cana.

Surviving are his daughters: Dawn Marie Massimini (Michael), and three grandchildren, of Maryland; and Chandlee Chambers (George), and three grandchildren, of Delaware: sister: June Y. (Adams) Smith of Manheim; three nephews, and a niece.

Preceding him in death is his brother: Robert Eugene Adams; and sister: J. Arlene (Smith) Bryson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m., at The United Methodist Church of Atonement, 3518 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Del.
