Paul R. Smeltz, 98, Smeltz’s Auto Body proprietor, country western musician, married 75 years

Paul Raymond Smeltz, 98, formerly of Gordonville, died April 5, 2016, at Luther Acres, Lititz.

Born in Paradise Township, he was a son of Harry Cleveland and Maude K. (Bowermaster) Smeltz. He celebrated his 75th wedding anniversary with his wife, Gladys P. (Porter) Smeltz, on March 15.

Paul owned and operated Smeltz’s Auto Body, Gordonville, for more than 50 years. He was a member, Sunday School teacher, council member, and sang in the choir of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. Years ago, Paul played numerous instruments in country western groups, one being a warm-up group for Roy Acuff in Rising Sun, Md. While living at Luther Acres he enjoyed volunteering around the campus.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter: Beverly Ann (Rev. Dr. Ted) Edwards, of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; son: the Rev. Paul W. (Holly S. Sandvig) Smeltz, Lititz, former pastor of Muddy Creek Lutheran Church, Denver; sister: Gladys Denlinger, New Holland; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held April 8 at Luther Acres Chapel, Lititz, with the Rev. Cheryl Hoffman officiating. Private inurnment was in St. John’s United Methodist Cemetery, Paradise.
