Patricia ‘Pat’ McGovern, 76, Rothsville H.S. grad, nurse at Lancaster Courthouse, enjoyed travel

Patricia “Pat” Markley McGovern, 76, of Lancaster, died March 17, 2015 with her family by her side at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy.

Pat was born and raised in Lexington. A member of the last class to graduate from Rothsville High School, she attended Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1959 with her RN degree.

Pat had an extensive career as a nurse. She worked as a nurse at the Lancaster General Hospital, Community Medical Center in Toms River, and was the court nurse at the Lancaster Court House for 33 years. In addition to nursing, she worked with her parents, the late Abram and Emma (Eagler) Markley, at their family business, Markley’s Meat Market, in Lexington and Lancaster Central Market.

A generous and caring person, she was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church. Pat made the best chocolate chip cookies in the world and was fortunate to travel extensively. Pat’s favorite destination was the beach and she loved to see Broadway shows and spend time in New York City.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years: Thomas McGovern; son: Steve McGovern; daughter-in-law: Julie McGovern; and two grandsons: Ryan and Drew; daughter: Anne Sebestyen; son-in-law: Joseph Sebestyen and three grandchildren: Parker, Lauren and Tommy.

A memorial service was held March 21 at Highland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster. Interment will be held privately in Longenecker Brethren Cemetery in Lititz.
