Norman W. Gerhart88, dairy farmer, Root’s employee

Norman W. Gerhart, 88, of Manheim, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 at his residence.

Born in West Cocalico Township, he was the son of the late Carson and Ida Wealand Gerhart and the husband of the late Alma Gerhart.

He was a member of Chestnut Hill Mennonite Church in Columbia. Norman was a long time dairy farmer and worked at Atlantic Breeders in Lancaster and at Root’s Country Market in Manheim. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his friend: Kathryn Henry; children: Wilma, wife of the late J. Earl Zimmerman, of Pine Grove; Vera, wife of James E. Tyson, of Lititz; Fern, wife of Ivan N. Huber, of East Earl; Mae, wife of Carl M. Zimmerman, of Richland; and Norman Gerhart, of Pine Grove; 19 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers; two sisters; and a great-granddaughter.

A funeral service was held on Nov. 12 at Chestnut Hill Mennonite Church, Columbia. Burial took place in the East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery.
