Nancy Boose Fasolt, 71, confectioner, author, proprietor of Cake and Kandy Emporium

Nancy Boose Fasolt, 71, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, in Bluffton, S.C., with her daughters at her side.

Nancy was born May 22, 1943 in Lancaster to Helen H. and Paul L. Boose.

She was a 1961 graduate of Hempfield High School in Landisville. In 1963 she was married to Terry Bruce Fasolt of Lancaster. The couple had two daughters, remained deeply devoted to each other and enjoyed a happy and fulfilling marriage until Terry’s death in 2005.

Professionally, Nancy became internationally known as an accomplished confectioner. She was the founder and proprietor of the Cake and Kandy Emporium, Lititz. Her confections have been featured in Country Woman and Country Living’s cooking magazines as well as on NBC’s Today Show. More recently, Nancy made a name for herself as a preeminent authority on the history and making of clear toy candy. She published a book on the subject, Clear Toy Candy: All about the Traditional Holiday Treat with Steps for Making your Own Candy, in 2010.

Nancy strongly believed in giving of herself and supported a variety of charitable organizations throughout her life by generously giving of her time and other resources whenever she saw a need.

Nancy is survived by her two daughters: Rebecca Fasolt Jones, of Denver, N.C.; and Carrie Fasolt Crawford of Funkstown, Md.; her four grandchildren: Riley and McKenzie Jones; and Scott and Paul Crawford; and her sister: Joan Boose Garner, of Mt. Joy.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Terry Bruce Fasolt; and her parents: Paul Lester Boose and Helen Hershey Boose.

A memorial service is scheduled at Otterbein United Methodist Church, Lancaster on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nancy’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Grace for Guatemala, c/o Denver United Methodist Church, Denver, N.C. or Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster County.
