Mary Jane Gruber, 78, homemaker, Milton Grove UMC member, enjoyed gospel music

Mary Jane Gruber, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was the wife of the late Clayton F. Gruber, who died in October 2016. Born in Manheim, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Susan (Burkhart) Merkey.

She was a homemaker most of her life. Mary Jane was a member of Milton Grove United Methodist Church, and enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Surviving are two sons: Dale, husband of Mary Gruber, Lebanon; Jay, husband of Sue Gruber, Mount Joy; three daughters: Darlene, wife of James Hutchison, Elizabethtown; Charlene Gruber, Lancaster; Marlene Gruber, Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: David Merkey, Willow Street; and Mark Merkey, Manheim.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a brother: Samuel Merkey Jr.; and a sister: Ruth Witmer.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at the Milton Grove United Methodist Church, 2026 Cloverleaf Road, Mount Joy, on Friday Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Milton Grove Cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the church on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
