Mary Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Eager, 92, Rothsville H.S. grad, worked at Textile Machine Works, enjoyed baking

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Eager, 92, a resident of Landis Homes, formerly of Larch Avenue, East Petersburg, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 22, 2017.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John and Laura Brubaker Messner, and was the wife of the late Harry T. Eager, who died in December 2015, with whom she shared 72 years of marriage.

Betty was a graduate of Rothsville High School, now Warwick High School; and a member of the Grace Evangelical Congregation Church, East Petersburg, where she was very active as a church member. At one time she was employed by Textile Machine Works in Wyomissing. Betty enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her daughter: Harriet C., wife of Dennis L. Hughes, of East Petersburg; a son: Harry Dale Eager of Falls Church, Va.; a daughter: Karen S. Eager of Savannah, Ga.; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister: Rebecca M. Geizentanner of Anaheim, Calif.

She was predeceased by a brother: John D. Messner; and sister: Jean Messner Bixler.

Services were held Feb. 27 at Landis Homes’ East Bethany Chapel, Lititz, with Chaplain James Leaman officiating. Interment was in the Mount Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Akron.
