Luther L. Henry, 83, Army vet, Lancaster City Police captain of detectives, IA narcotics head

Luther L. Henry, 83, of Manheim, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy.

Born in Wrightsville, he was the son of the late Luther L. and Anna M. (Landis) Henry. He was the husband of the late Geraldine (Watson) Henry, who passed away in 2011.

He started his law enforcement career in 1959, joining the Lancaster City Police Department and became captain of the detectives before retiring in 1985 after 26 years of service. Luther later took on a position with the PA Attorney General, where he was head of Internal Affairs for the division of narcotics.

Luther proudly served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne.

He is survived by his daughter: Rhonda L., wife of James Dowell, of Landisville; son: Luther Alan Henry, husband of Paula, of Yorktown, Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandson: James Dowell Jr.; a brother: Donald C. Henry; and a sister: Diana M. Mylin.

A celebration of Luther’s life was held Aug. 25 at East Fairview Church of the Brethren, Manheim.
