Lawrence L. Deppe, 79, veteran of Korean war, Wilbur Chocolate retiree, animal lover

Lawrence L. Deppe, 79, of Lititz, passed away on Thursday morning at the Mount Joy Hospice Center following a short illness.

Born in Cementon, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Jennie Deppe. He was the husband of Nancy L. Ringer Deppe, together they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Sept. 24.

A graduate of Cornwall High School, he served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Lawrence had worked for the Wilbur Chocolate Company for 43 years as a laborer until he retired in 2011. He was a member of the Lititz American Legion Post # 56, he enjoyed reading and feeding the various animals that visited his back yard, especially the birds and squirrels. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman and was active with Future Farmers of America.

Lawrence will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Nancy; his daughters: Donna J., wife of James L. Stark of Lititz, Beckie L. Hartman of Lititz, Christine D. Turkki of Orlando, Fla., and Cathleen M. Olsen of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; his grandchildren: Megan, wife of Krish Murthy, Michael, husband of Christie Hartman, Tristan and Grant Turkki; and his great-grandchildren; Prashant and Chandra Murthy and Clayton and Adalyn Hartman.

He was preceded in death by his sister: Marilyn Alcala.

Services were held April 7 at Spacht Funeral Home, Lititz, with Rev. Mark V. Breland, Sr. officiating. Interment followed in Lititz Moravian Cemetery.
