Katheryn Louise Kretzmann, 95, elementary school teacher, secretary, volunteer, enjoyed classical music

Katheryn Louise (Krekeler) Kretzmann of Lititz went to her glory on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at her residence at the Luther Acres Retirement Community.

Born July 14, 1921, in Leavenworth, Kansas, Katheryn was the daughter of late Carl and Louise (Wagner) Krekeler.

She graduated with a teaching degree from St. John’s College, Winfield, Kansas; and taught in Lutheran elementary schools in St. Louis, Missouri; Fort Smith, Ark.; and Philadelphia. In 1948, she married F. Carl Kretzmann.

From 1948 to 2000 she and her husband resided in Northeast Philadelphia, where they raised six children. Katheryn supported her husband’s ministries at Redeemer Lutheran Church and School. She also served several years as a teacher and a school secretary. Katheryn was also employed at the American College of Physicians in Philadelphia from 1979 until her retirement in 1986. In November of 2000, she moved with her husband to Luther Acres in Lititz.

Katheryn was active in volunteer work with the various women’s church groups, Aid for Friends, and Community Care Center of the Northeast (Philadelphia). Her interests included classical music, healthy living, various crafts, and devotion to the Lord.

Katheryn was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, F. Carl; as well as sons: Daniel and Timothy; a sister: Doris; and brothers: Kenneth, Roland, and Carl.

Surviving her are children: David (Ann) of Sacramento, Calif.; Carol of Nevada City, Calif.; Steven (Robert) of Batesville, Va.; and Deborah Kramer (Len) of Levittown; a sister: Rose Marie (Don) of Lititz; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 4 in the chapel at Luther Acres, Lititz. Interment will be held in the Forest Hills Cemetery, Huntington Valley, at the convenience of the family.
