Joy Carol Robinson, 77, art teacher, award-winning painter, had a kind and welcoming spirit

Joy Carol Robinson, 77, of Lititz, passed away on Aug. 29, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by her family.

Joy was born in Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Hambleton. Joy was the loving wife of James (Jay) A. Robinson for 49 years.

Joy was a 1959 graduate of East Hartford High School and the University of Hartford with a BFA degree in fine arts.

Joy was an art teacher for over 15 years where she had the honor of positively influencing many young lives.

Joy was a member of the Lancaster Art Association and continued with her art career, displaying her work at art shows in the Lancaster area where she won awards for her paintings and was accepted and recognized by her peers.

Joy’s other passions throughout her life were her pets, horseback riding, sailing on the Chesapeake, her flower gardening and traveling. Her most cherished times were spent with family and friends especially her grandchildren and great-grandson.

Joy’s unforgettable presence will be forever cherished by her family and friends. Her kindness and welcoming spirit was a force that brought many people together. A friend of Joy’s was a friend for life.

Joy is survived by her husband: Jay, whom she married on Aug. 10, 1969; two children: Marc R. Robinson (Susan), and Sara Giordano, both of Lititz; a stepson: Matthew Roberts (Tracee) of Ocala, Fla.; step-granddaughter: Emily; and four grandchildren who brought her so much joy: Skyler Giordano (Ashley), Gage Mitchell, Nya Beattie, Savannah Robinson; and great-grandson: Jett Giordano. Joy is also survived by her sister: Patty Chernik (Bill); niece: Kathleen Stoll; nephews: Steven Chernik (Christine), and Bret Chernik (Ann), all of Connecticut; and a sister-in-law: Linda Jeker of Switzerland and Florida; nephew: Karl Jeker (Ana) of London; and niece: Kimberly Jeker of Zurich.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks for the care and compassion given Joy while a patient in the ICU at Lancaster General Hospital.

There will be a celebration of Joy’s life Saturday, Sept. 15, from 3 to 7 p.m. All friends are invited to attend. It will be held in the main terminal of the Lancaster Airport, 500 Airport Road, Lititz.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joy’s memory to a charity of your choice.
