John W. Trefny, 97, St. Paul Lutheran member, Lititz Lion, volunteered for Meals on Wheels

John W. Trefny, 97, of Lititz, passed away at his residence Nov. 28, 2014.

Born in Corona, N.Y., he was the son of the late John and Anna Urban Trefny. He was married for 74 years to Gladys Glace Trefny.

John was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lititz where he was active in church activities and served on the church council. He was a product of the New York City school system and was a graduate of City College of New York. John was a member of the Lititz Lions Club, delivered and cooked for Lititz Meals on Wheels, and formerly served as chairman of the Hatboro Horsham Sewer Authority and the Upper Moreland School Authority.

He worked in marine sales for Sperry Gyroscope Co. during World War II, and later was in the sales division of F.A.G., a motor ball bearings company, retiring as General Manager of the automotive division in Oak Park, Mich.

He is survived by his wife: Gladys; a son: Scott D., husband of Jeanette Harkins Trefny, Lititz; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was a daughter: Suzanne; and a granddaughter: Lauren.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 W. Orange St., Lititz, with the Rev. James R. Gable Jr. officiating. A visitation with the family will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
