Joanne M. Wagner, 80, elementary reading specialist, pet therapy volunteer, enjoyed travel

Joanne M. Wagner, 80, of Lititz, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Moravian Manor.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Mary Gundrum Wagner.

Joanne was a graduate of Millersville University and received her master’s degree in education from the Pennsylvania State University. She began her teaching career in the Lancaster Township School District as a first-grade teacher then became an elementary reading specialist and remained so for 30 years.

Joanne was a member of the Lititz Moravian Church. She was a Girl Scout leader; camp counselor, and a volunteer for the Kay Ames Pet Therapy program. She enjoyed needle work and dog training. Joanne was also a volunteer at the Children’s Corner at Moravian Manor prior to moving there. She also did extensive traveling when she was younger.

Surviving is a niece: Connie Lawrence, of Lititz; a nephew: Richard Wagner; great niece: Janel Good, wife of Matt, of Lititz; great-great niece and nephew: Christine Parr (Taylor) and Conner Good, both of Lititz; and a great-great-great nephew: Emory Parr, of Lititz.

A brother: Fred E. Wagner, preceded Joanne in death.

A life celebration was held Jan. 28 at Moravian Manor Chapel, Lititz, with Pastor Mark V. Breland Sr. officiating. Interment in Moravian Church Cemetery was private.
