Joan E. Groff, 91, mother of two, attended St. Paul’s UCC, Nearly-Nu Thrift Shop volunteer

Joan E. Groff, 91, of Newville, and formerly of Manheim, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.

Born in Manheim, she was the daughter of the late Henry S. and Sarah Marks Boyd. She was the wife of the late James C. Groff, who died in 1991.

Joan graduated in 1945 from the former Manheim High School; and she attended St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Manheim. She also volunteered at the Nearly-Nu Thrift Shop, Manheim.

Surviving are two daughters: Carolyn J., wife of Ken Hussar, of Lancaster; Colleen G. wife of Jerome Johnson, of Newville; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Henry A. Boyd; and a sister: Barbara A. Swartz.

Services were held Jan. 10 at Manheim Grace Brethren Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Dunkle officiating. Interment was in Manheim Fairview Cemetery.
