Jane Frances Helen Keating Craig passed peacefully Tuesday, May 6, 2014, following her seven-year-long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Since 2007, Jane has lived at Moravian Manor. She formerly lived at 28 S. Broad St., Lititz, her family home for almost 50 years.

Born in Avoca, Pa, Jane was the daughter of the late Stanley Joseph Keating and Mary Claire Callahan Keating of Lansdowne, Pa. She was the loving and devoted wife of Dennis to whom she was married for almost 43 years.

Jane graduated from Notre Dame Catholic Girls’ High School in 1947; then in 1951 she graduated from Immaculata College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a copywriter in the advertising department of Strawbridge and Clothier department store in Philadelphia and was a model.

Jane was an active member of the Lititz Women’s Club and the Lancaster Chapter of the American Association of University Women. She and Dennis belonged to the Lancaster, Lebanon, and Eagles Mere Country Clubs. Jane loved spending time at the vacation home they designed and built in Eagles Mere. She enjoyed reading and worked many years as a volunteer at the Lititz Public Library. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, and entertaining family and friends. She and Den loved spending time with their “gang” especially summer picnics at Woodridge Swim Club, an annual party for the Lititz Art Show, and an open house at their home every Christmas Eve.

Jane loved living in Lititz and was instrumental in helping the square in Lititz to remain what it is today. In 1967, she organized a successful community wide petition campaign to keep the General Sutter from being torn down to make way for a gas station. Then, at the time of the bicentennial, she again started a campaign asking the residents of Lititz to donate money towards the purchase of a large nativity set. This was placed over the fountain in the town square during the 1976 Christmas season. That nativity still graces the town square each year. She was quietly very proud of her efforts to maintain a lovely center of town for her beloved Lititz.

Dennis and Jane had four children: Sheila Teresa Mohler Peregrin, wife of Robert Joseph Peregrin of Lancaster, Dennis John Craig, Jr., husband of Ruth Suter Craig, of Windsor, Conn., Lisa Craig Burland, wife of William Henry Burland, IV, of Quakertown, and Robert Stanley Craig, husband of Barbara Huber Craig, of Frederick, Md. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Allison Mohler and Rebecca Mohler; Dennis Craig III, and Mallory Craig; Kelly Burland Goldenberg and Katie Burland Poremba; and Robert Craig, Jr., Eileen Craig, and Gillian Craig. In addition, she has two great granddaughters: Ava and Caroline Goldenberg.

Jane was predeceased by their tenth grandchild: William H. Burland, V, who died in 1986; and a brother: William F. Keating, Esq.

Services were held May 9 at St. James Catholic Church, Lititz, with The Rev. James O’Blaney, C.Ss.R. as Celebrant. Interment was in the Moravian Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer’s Disease Research, attn: Memorial Department, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
