James R. McManus Jr., Army Air Corps vet, Sears division manager, PSU fan, enjoyed reading

James R. McManus Jr., “Mick,” died Oct. 3, 2017, at Moravian Manor in Lititz, where he was a recent resident.

He was born Oct. 21, 1925, at home in the Cabbage Hill area of Lancaster, to James R. and Mary (Fisher) McManus.

Mick graduated early from Lancaster Catholic High School to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. While stationed at Scott Field in Bellville, Ill., he married Leanore A. Cuzzuculi in the base’s flight area chapel. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on July 29, 2017.

Upon his discharge, the couple returned to Lancaster where they shared their lives together. After attending Franklin and Marshall College, he was employed in sales and retired from Sears as a division manager.

Mick was an enthusiastic Eagles and Penn State football fan. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, and time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: James R. McManus III (LaRue), of Lititz; Kathleen A. Waltman (Lewis), of Lancaster; grandsons: Matthew Rice (Kendra) and Michael E. Waltman (Anne Marie); and great-grandsons: Benjamin and Devin Rice.

Services were held Oct. 6 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Lancaster. Interment was in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
