Jacqueline Zimmerman Wright Bowser, 81, Army vet, registered nurse, published writer, prize-winning cook

Jacqueline “Jackie” Zimmerman Wright Bowser of Lititz passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, in the Lancaster General Hospital at the age of 81.

Born in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Edith Mae Zimmerman Brandt and Melvin James Zimmerman. She was married 48 years to the late Lewis H. Bowser Sr.

She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1953. She was a registered nurse who graduated from The Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 1956. She served in the U.S. Army stationed in El Paso, Texas. After the Army she worked as a registered nurse in a family practice in Akron.

Jackie loved writing and had many articles published in local newspapers and magazines. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband. They sponsored an annual flounder fishing tournament in Chincoteague, Va. She and Lew spent many winters snowmobiling with the Dutch Trailcutters Snowmobile Club on trails in Potato City, and in the eastern U.S. and Wyoming.

Jackie also loved traveling and recording her trips by pictures and movies. She spent many summer vacations with the family on the Delaware River, and has loads of movies of relatives trying to master the art of water skiing. She loved to be with family and friends and hosted many pool parties at their home. She had a large garden and was busy in the summer canning and freezing the fruits of her labor. Jackie was a great cook, and won second place in a contest sponsored by Hanover Brands of York. Her Bean Buns recipe won her a trip for two to Acapulco Mexico and a fun-filled weekend in Pittsburgh to meet the actor Edward Albert. She was a talented crafter, creating Christmas wreaths and swags for their Christmas Tree Farm started in 1985. Jackie was her husband’s partner in his body shop business, the Christmas Tree Farm, and the Auger Transporter business Lew invented.

Jackie is survived by her three sons: Lewis H. Bowser Jr. and his wife, Sue Ann, of Lititz; David L. Wright and wife, Tina, of Manheim; Mark A. Bowser and wife, LaRue, of Lititz; a granddaughter: Kelly M. Wright; and a great-grandson, Caleb, of Lancaster; a brother: Richard D. Zimmerman and his wife Barbara of Stewartstown; and a sister: Sally Ann Paugh, wife of the late James F. Paugh, of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, was a brother: Gerald W. Zimmerman; and a grandson: Michael Wright.

Jackie attended DOVE Westgate Church in Ephrata. Contributions in her memory may be made to the DOVE Benevolence Fund, 1755 W. Main St, Ephrata, PA 17522.

Funeral services were held Sept. 5 at Dove Westgate Church, Ephrata.
