Howard Barton Rathman, 85, Korea vet, Schenke Tool Company retiree, marathon runner, replica maker

Howard Barton Rathman, 85, of Manheim, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim.

He was the husband of Janet L. Rathman for 33 years. Howard was born in Lancaster, the son of the late Howard F. and Fanny M. Rathman.

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Penryn, where he sang in the choir for many years. Howard was a member of Christiana Lodge No. 417 of Free and Accepted Masons. After 40 years of service, he retired from Schenke Tool Company of Paradise.

He was a graduate from Paradise High School in 1949, and served in Korea in 1953-54 with the U.S. Army. Howard was a marathon runner, having completed 13 marathons, including Boston and New York. He enjoyed birdwatching, woodworking, and making replicas of antiques and local historical buildings.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two step-daughters: Elizabeth, wife of Lowell Heisey; and Diane, wife of Seth Kensinger; step-granddaughters: Laura Martyn, Andrea Hawthorne, Carolyn Kocot and Grace Kensinger; and step-great-grandchildren: Layla and Mason Hawthorne; Emma and Jackson Martyn; and Everett Kocot.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard and Paul Rathman; and a sister: Edna Bush.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
