Hilda Bard Garrett, 95, of Denver, passed away in her home on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018.

She was born in Denver on Nov. 22, 1922 to the late Robert E. and Maggie (Becker) Bard, and was the wife of the late Clarence H. “Closs” Garrett, who passed away in 2002 after 58 years of marriage.

She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ for 61 years where she was a choir member and involved with the church’s community services. Hilda was a charter member of the Denver Women’s Club and a Girl Scout leader. She loved cooking and baking for her family, flower gardening, reading, and playing cards with friends and family.

Hilda was employed by Doneckers of Ephrata for 25 years as a personal shopper and an assistant buyer, which she enjoyed very much.

She is survived by two children: Daniel B., husband of Mary Ann Sneeringer; and Rebecca A., wife of Bill Rowe; five grandchildren: Sarah, wife of Sheldon McBee; Andrew Garrett, husband of Ashley Singer; Rachel Fennimore; Alex Garrett, husband of Meg Abele; Shawn Rowe, husband of Christopher Sutton; and four great-granddaughters: Cora and Chloe McBee, Audrey and Addison Garrett.

She was preceded in death by one brother and seven sisters.

Hilda kept her sense of humor until the very end and reminded everyone to “think positive and live one day at a time.”

Services were held Sept. 1 at St. John’s UCC, Denver, with Pastor Bradley Haws officiating. Interment took place in the Fairview Cemetery in Denver.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hilda’s memory may be sent to: Denver Women’s Club, 56 Stoney Run Village, Denver, PA 17517; or Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
