Helen S. Bowman94, devoted grandmother, volunteer

Helen S. Bowman, 94, of Lititz, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Luther Acres in Lititz.

Born in Lebanon on July 7, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and Olive Fox Livering. She was the wife of the late Frederick H. Bowman, who died in 1983.

Helen graduated from Lebanon High School in 1935. She was an active member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lebanon and was a former president of the Singles and Doubles Club. She also volunteered for over 30 years at Spang Crest Manor and Luther Acres. Helen enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling, reading and watching football. Helen will especially be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Helen is survived by her two sons: Frederick H. Jr., husband of Paula Bowman, of Jefferson Hills; and Jeffrey E., wife of Frances Bowman, of Alexandria; two daughters: Sheila, wife of Les Noel, of York; and Sally, wife of Theodore Boger, of Waterloo, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy Wentling and Marian Paine.

Funeral services were held Aug. 1 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lebanon, with the Rev. Andrew J. Evenson officiating. Interment took place in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
