Harriet A. Smith, 93, UZRC resident, former TWA stewardess and schoolteacher

Harriet A. (Pierce) Smith, 93, of United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, formerly of Millersville, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2015, after a brief illness.

Born July 29, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. & Lavonia (Ferguson) Pierce. She was married to the late Edgar Merle Smith, who died in 2000.

She was a homemaker, but earlier in life was a stewardess for the former TWA and then a schoolteacher in Ohio and in the SDL at Wickersham Elementary School. She last worked at the former Clothes Tree, Millersville.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Millersville, and happily served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher for more than 30 years. Active in the community, she was an AAUW for 25 years and served on the auxiliaries of LGH and the former St. Joseph Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her family & friends, sewing, reading, and playing bridge.

Surviving are two children: Marcia S., married to Michael H. Brenner, of Lititz; and Stuart P., married to Paula J. (Van Artsdalen), of South Seaville, N.J.; three grandchildren: April Brenner (M. Shane) Hudson, Joe (Lauren) Brenner and Chelsey (Matthew Sheppard) Smith; and great-grandchildren: Asher, Benjamin and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by siblings: Mary Louise Brevoort and David A. Pierce.

A life celebration was held March 23 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Millersville. Interment was in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
