H. Lucile Steffy, 88, Brethren Village resident, was LGH practical nurse, active in church

H. Lucile Steffy, 88, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday morning at Brethren Village, where she had been a resident since 2006.

Born in McComb, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Vern C. and Etta Mae Thurman Williams. Lucile was the wife of the late Claude S. Steffy, who passed away in March 2012, to whom she was married for 67 years.

Lucile was a 1943 graduate of Mendenhall High School in Mississippi and had moved to the Lancaster area in 1945. She graduated from the Willow Street Vo-Tech, Practical Nursing School. She worked as a Practical Nurse for Lancaster General Hospital for 14 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lancaster, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild, and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a former member of the Licensed Practical Nurse’s Association of PA. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and doing counted cross-stitch, crocheting and gardening.

Lucile will be fondly remembered by her daughters: Claudette (John) Murphy of Conestoga, Paula (Jerry) Stoner of Manheim and Dorothy (Peter) Torland of Elizabethtown; her seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A Life Celebration Service was held May 19 in the Chapel of Brethren Village, with the Rev. Richard Cook officiating. Interment was private.
