Gwendolyn S. Martin, 83, Plain & Fancy tour guide, Eastern Star, Farm Women member

Gwendolyn S. “Gwen” Martin, 83, of Manheim and formerly of Leola, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim.
Born in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Marie Hiltner Sterneman. She was the loving wife of Ralph H. Martin, and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July of last year.
Gwen retired as a tour guide and waitress for Plain and Fancy Farm Restaurant, Bird in Hand. She was a member of Lancaster Church of the Brethren. Gwen was also a former member of the James Buchanan Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and Farm Women. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Jenny M., wife of Donald Rettew, of Reading; Sandy M., wife of Eli “Butch” Zook, of Leola; a son: Jeffrey L., husband of Connie Vidzicki Martin, of Leola; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Sue Garrett; grandson: Michael Rettew; and a brother: Ronald W. Sterneman.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Hoffer Auditorium, 544 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service with refreshments. Interment will be private in Bareville Cemetery, Leola.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Gwen’s memory to Pleasant View Retirement Community, Benevolent Care Endowment Fund, 544 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
