Gerald R. ‘Jerry’ Snavely, 73, Vietnam vet, Alcoa retiree, enjoyed vegetable gardening, Pomeranians

Gerald R. “Jerry” Snavely, 73, of Manheim, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Manor Township, he was the son of the late John H. Jr. and Mabel Heisey Snavely. Jerry was the loving husband of Linda Will Snavely; they observed their 36th wedding anniversary in October.

For more than 37 years Jerry worked for Alcoa, Lancaster Plant, until his retirement. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Manheim VFW. He enjoyed fishing and vegetable gardening. He will be missed by his “girls,” two affectionate Pomeranian dogs named Foxy and Buttercup.

Surviving in addition to his wife: Linda; is a daughter: Kerry, wife of Greg Witwer, of Ephrata; a grandson: Bryson Puryear of Ephrata; a brother: Donald, husband of Linda Snavely, of Irving, Texas; and a sister: Nancy, wife of Gerald Bollinger, of Ephrata.

Preceding him in death is a brother: Clair Snavely.

Services were held Dec. 7 at Buch Funeral Home, Manheim. Interment was private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
