George Remetz, 94, WWII vet, Warwick district teacher, administrator, principal, golfer

George Remetz, 94, peacefully passed away on Dec. 27, 2017 at Taylor Farm Assisted Living in Bushwood, Md.

He was born March 12, 1923 in Swoyersville, to Stephen and Susan (Wancho) Remetz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine C. (Michael) Remetz, in 2004.

George was a 1941 graduate of Swoyersville High School. After high school, he joined the U. S. Navy, serving in World War II as a Radioman 2nd Class aboard ship. Honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended college receiving a bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg State Teachers College and a master’s degree from Temple University.

After college, he was hired as a seventh grade teacher at The Highlands School in Bel Air, Md, and then accepted a fifth grade teaching position at Lititz Elementary School in Lititz, PA. He went on to become principal and administrator until 1985 when he retired from the Warwick School District after 31 years.

He was an active member of St. James Catholic Church serving as eucharistic minister for many years, and liked to fish, hunt, golf, and vacation in Cape Cod, Mass., Ocean City, N.J., and Conifer, Colo.

Survivors include children: Patricia A. Remetz, Carol L. Remetz, and Joseph G. (Patricia) Remetz; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 27, at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave. in Lititz. A reception will follow in St. James Hall after the mass.

    He was my 5th grade teacher at Lititz Elementary school. this would have been in 1955 to 1956.
