Fern D. Eckert, 96, WWII Army med tech, Fern’s Beauty Shop owner, country music fan

Fern D. Eckert, 96, of Lititz, formerly of Akron, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Luther Acres Manor.

She was born in Grill, Berks County, to the late George and Laura (Freeman) Moyer, and was the wife of Norman S. Eckert, with whom she shared 75 years of marriage.

She was a member of Brickerville United Lutheran Church.

Fern owned and operated Fern’s Beauty Shop and worked as a teller for Ephrata National Bank. She graduated from Shillington High School and was a veteran of World War II in the Army as a medical technician. Fern was a member of American Legion Cloister Post #429, Lititz Springs VFW Post #1463 and past president of Akron Lioness Club. She enjoyed country music and loved chocolate.

In addition to her husband, Fern is survived by two nephews: Kenneth Stout and George Moyer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Elsie and Esther.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Brickerville United Lutheran Church, 340 E. 28th Division Highway, Lititz followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Scott Davis officiating. Interment will take place in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Brickerville. Military honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veteran Honor Guard.
