Evelyn L. Hackman, 92, formerly of Brunnerville, passed away at Pleasant View Retirement Community Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014.

She was the wife of Jacob H. Hackman who passed away in 1988. She was the WWII widow of Carl B. Frey who was killed in the Malmedy Massacre. Born on June 30, 1921 in Denver, she was the daughter of Cloyd and Carrie Sweigert Bucher and the oldest of nine children. She was a member of the Brunnerville United Methodist Church.

Evelyn worked at Raybestos, Manheim, during World War II and was always a very devoted patriot. For many years she worked as a cook in several local restaurants and for 24 years was a crossing guard for the John Beck Elementary School in Brunnerville.

She is survived by sons: Thomas D. Hackman, husband of Carol Sue and Kenneth R. Hackman, both of Lititz; daughters: Bonnie Hackman of Lancaster and Patty S. Hackman-Boyer, wife of John, Scottsdale, Ariz. There are seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers: Cloyd Bucher, Jr. (Mary Ann) and Ronald Bucher (Sarah) both of Hopeland and a sister: Delma Adams (Ronald) of Mt. Gretna. Predeceasing her are daughter-in-law: Dawn and son-in-law: Steve Gallo. Also predeceased are sister: Velma Myers and brothers: Vernon, Robert, Frank and Terry Bucher. Surviving loved ones will dearly miss her.

Friends and relatives attended Evelyn’s life celebration service from Brunnerville United Methodist Church, Feb. 24 with the Rev. Steve Rodgers officiating. Burial was in the Brunnerville UM Cemetery.
