Esther S. Zimmerman76, motel housekeeper, Sunday school secretary

Esther S. Zimmerman, 76, of The Mennonite Home, Lancaster, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011.

Born in Rothsville, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth Stauffer Cramer.

Formerly of Bainbridge, Esther was a homemaker but also worked as a housekeeper for the Red Rose Motel at Rheems. Previously, she was employed by the former Donegal Industries of Mount Joy, Colebrook Terry of Colebrook, Apparel Manufacturing of Bainbridge and Hestco of Elizabethtown. Esther was a member of Elizabethtown Mennonite Church, where she served as Sunday school secretary for many years and, more recently, she attended Bainbridge Church of God. An avid reader, Esther enjoyed needlepoint and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

Esther will be missed by her four children: Darlene, wife of Michael Halterman, of Elizabethtown; Linda, wife of Timothy Black, of Folsom, Calif.; John III, husband of Melinda Gutshall Zimmerman, of Bainbridge; and Jay Ronald, husband of Michelle Garman Zimmerman, of Maytown; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A grandson: Corey Halterman, who died September 3; a sister: Florence Cramer; and three brothers: Edwin, Melvin and Daniel Cramer preceded her in death.

Esther’s funeral was held at Elizabethtown Mennonite Church on Oct. 3.
