93, foster mother, worked for RCA, dress shop owner

Esther Baer, 93, of Lititz, passed away at the home of her daughter, Shirley Ann Spleen, in Lititz Monday, Nov. 4, following a long and fulfilling life.

Born in Chester County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Lilly Wingenroth Snader. She was the wife of the late Samuel Baer, who passed away in November 1997.

Esther worked in the tube-making department for RCA for several years and also owned and operated a dress shop in Manheim for a few years. She was a charter member of Grace Church of Lancaster, where she taught Sunday School and was a Deaconess. She was also a Den Mother for a Cub Scout Pack in Manheim and enjoyed writing encouraging letters and cards to family and friends. Mostly she was known for being a foster mom for over 50 years.

Esther will be lovingly remembered by her children: Shirley Ann Spleen of Lititz; Samuel S. (Betty) Baer of Hyden, Ky.; Sandra L. (Richard) Charles of East Waterford and Deborahe Gail Squires of Lancaster; 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Pauline Ruhl of Lancaster; Miriam Kemp and Annabelle Bedi, both of Manheim; Lois Eby and Gloria Nauman, both of Ephrata and Lillian Weigand of Lititz and her brothers: James and Samuel Snader, both of Lititz. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Sue Lynn Baer, and her sisters: Florence Alexander, Josephine Sprecher and Doris Groff.

Relatives and friends attended her Life Celebration Service at Grace Brethren Church, Lancaster, Nov. 8 with the Rev. Galen Wiley officiating. Interment was at Longenecker’s Cemetery, Lititz.
