Erika Wubbena, 90, of Neffsville, formerly of Dover, Del., died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at Brethren Village in Neffsville after a short illness.

Born Caroline Luise Erika Wilharm on Sept. 15, 1921, in Poznan, Poland, she was the daughter of Ludwig and Marie Prussner Wilharm. The family immigrated to the U.S. in December 1923 and settled near Elgin, Ill.

A 1939 graduate of Dundee High School, she attended Ellis Business College, Elgin, Ill., and subsequently worked in Chicago. On Sept. 22, 1943, she married Wyatt Wubbena and soon thereafter he was stationed at Dover Air Force Base, Del. At the end of World War II, they remained in Dover and raised their family. After her husband’s death in 1981, she moved to Lancaster County and had been a resident at Brethren Village since 1993.

She is survived by two daughters: Luise, wife of Charles Reading, of Lititz; and Cheryl, wife of Benjamin Keckler, of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons: Jan, husband of Teresa, and Kurt, both of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and two brothers: Ludwig, of Beloit, Wis.; and Martin, of Dundee, Ill; grandchildren: Judi Reading, of Lititz; Karl Reading, of Latrobe; Kevin Keckler, of West Lafayette, Ind.; Amy Keckler Williams, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Robert Wubbena, of Fort Riley, Kan.; and Mary Wubbena, of Amoussime, Togo, West Africa; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother: Ginther; and grandson: Timothy, of Reading.

A memorial service will be held at the Brethren Village Chapel on Oct. 8 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. J. Mark Tedford officiating. Her cremains will be interred at the Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia in a private service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Brethren Village Benevolence Fund, P.O. Box 5093, Lancaster.
