Elwood L. Reese Sr., 86, lifelong teacher and coach, started wrestling programs in Lititz

Elwood L. Reese Sr., 86, of Raystown Road, Huntingdon, formerly of Lititz, died Dec. 11, 2017, at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, where he had been in declining health.

Born Feb. 9, 1931, in Sinking Valley, Blair County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Ida (Dunlap) Reese. He was united in marriage to the former Frances Anne States on Sept. 7, 1950, in Kent, Ohio. Mrs. Reese preceded him in death Feb. 17, 2002.

Mr. Reese is survived by three children: Dixie Hammers and husband, Ed, of James Creek; Cliff Reese and wife, Suzanne, of Sarver; and Elwood Reese, of Warriors Mark; and grandchildren: Mat, Hadley, Eli, Aubrey, Ryan, Carly, and Cody.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Loretta and Beatrice; and a brother: Arthur Jr.

Mr. Reese was a graduate of Tyrone High School, received his bachelor’s degree from Lock Haven University in 1956 and his master’s degree from Penn State University.

He was a lifelong teacher and coach. Mr. Reese started wrestling programs in Lititz and in Huntingdon.

Services were held Dec. 14 at the First Regular Baptist Church, Huntingdon, with he Rev. Tim Spring officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon.
