Elvin “Butch” Newport Jr., 72, of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family, at his home, on Thursday, July 21, 2016.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Elvin Sr. and Miriam Michael Newport. Butch was the loving husband of Nancy L. Frey Newport, and they observed their 51st wedding anniversary in March.

For more than 35 years, Butch was employed by the Kerr Group, Lancaster; and later worked for the Bond Caster and Wheel Co., Manheim. Butch attended LCBC Church, Manheim campus. He had a great ability to fix anything and build projects masterfully, including all the renovations at his home throughout the years.

Butch was well known for scootering throughout Manheim and surrounding Lancaster County communities. His interests included: traveling to the Outer Banks, and spending time at Nags Head with his family; kayaking; woodworking; growing the best tomato plants in Lancaster County that are the envy of his family; and rooting for his favorite football team Philadelphia Eagles.

Butch and his wife, Nancy, had a life-long passion for music and dancing. Many family events were planned with the love of Sixties music and dancing the night away. Butch had a deep and abiding love for his wife, their family, and many close friends, which provided blessings to him throughout his entire life.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Nancy, are two daughters: Traci D., wife of Timothy E. Proffitt; Cassi S., wife of Jamie Michael Redcay, all of Manheim; four grandchildren: Jenna A. Proffitt Almodovar, wife of Devon; Cole A. Proffitt; Owen P. Redcay; Mea E. Redcay; a great-grandson: Zayden Almodovar; a brother: Corey E., husband of Barbara Newport, of Pequea; and a sister: Deb A. Shenberger of Lancaster.

Services were held July 26 at Buch Funeral Home, Manheim. Interment followed in Manheim Fairview Cemetery.

Those desiring may send contributions in Butch’s memory to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
